Opening the front mask
- Place the motorcycle on its stand on firm, even ground.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Remove the bolts 1 on either side.
- Pull the front mask 2 forward.
Replacing bulbs for low-beam headlight and high-beam headlight
- Open the front mask.
- Pull out plug 3.
- Remove cover 4.
- Disengage the wire spring clip 5 from the stop and fold up.
- Remove the bulb 6 from the socket 7.
- Replace the defective bulb.
NOTICE Bulbs with higher light-intensity ratings are available through aftermarket suppliers. These bulbs burn out more rapidly and generate more heat than conventional bulbs. Under adverse conditions the extra heat can cause damage to the headlight.
- To avoid soiling the glass, touch the bulb 6 only at the base.
- Position the bulb 6 and press it into the socket 7.
- Install the wire spring clip 5.
- Install cover 4.
- Connect plug 3.
- Close the front mask.
Replacing bulb for parking light
- Open the front mask.
- Pull the socket 3 out of the headlight housing.
- Remove bulb 4 from the socket.
- Replace the defective bulb.
- Use a clean, dry cloth to hold the bulb in order to keep the glass free of foreign matter.
- Insert bulb 4 into the socket.
- Fit the socket 3 into the headlight housing 5.
- Close the front mask.
Closing the front mask
- Close the front mask 2.
- Fit the screws 1 on either side.
Replacing bulbs for front and rear turn indicators
- Make sure the ground is level and firm and place the motorcycle on its stand.
- Switch off the ignition.
- Remove screw 1.
- Pull the glass out of the light housing at the threaded-fastener side.
- Turn bulb 2 counter-clockwise and remove it from the light housing.
- Replace the defective bulb.
- Use a clean, dry cloth to hold the bulb in order to keep the glass free of dirt and foreign matter.
- Turn bulb 2 clockwise to install it in the bulb housing.
- Working from the inboard side, insert the glass into the light housing and close the housing.
- Install screw 1.
Replacing LED turn indicators
- with LED flashing turn indicators OA
If the LED flashing turn indicators fail, they must be replaced. Under these circumstances:
- Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.
Replacing LED rear light
If the LEDs in the rear light fail, the rear light must be replaced.
Under these circumstances:
- Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.
Replacing number-plate light
- If the LEDs for the number plate light in the rear light fail, the rear light must be replaced. Under these circumstances:
- Seek the advice of a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Adjust the chain tension Make sure the ground is level and firm and place the motorcycle on its stand. Slacken nut 6. Slacken locknuts 3 on left and right. Use adjusting screws 4 on left and right to adjust chain tension. Checking chain tension. Ensure that the notch in the chain tensioner 5 is adjusted to the same scale value on the right and left. Tighten locknuts 3 on left and right to the specified tightening torque. Tighten nut 6 to the specified tightening torque.
