Headlight

Adjusting headlight for driving on left/driving on right

This motorcycle has a symmetric-beam low-beam headlight. If the motorcycle is ridden in a country where the opposite rule of the road applies, its symmetric low-beam headlight means that no measures are necessary to prevent the headlight beam from dazzling oncoming traffic.

Headlight beam throw and spring preload

Headlight beam throw is generally kept constant when spring preload is adjusted to suit load.

Headlight beam throw is set correctly ex-works.

NOTICE If there are doubts about the correct headlight beam throw, have the setting checked by a specialist workshop, preferably an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer.

Despite the spring preload being adjusted, oncoming traffic is still dazzled if the payload is high.

Increase spring preload for heavier riders, decrease spring preload for lighter riders.
